Creating strength and bringing revival through a piece of everyday art, the coffee mug.
Mugs with a Message is a mission-based organization, founded in 2021 by Avery Kessen, serving the community in Central Wisconsin by hosting social events that create space for everyone's story to be heard. Events directly benefit local non-profits, as all proceeds and completed art are donated.
What do Mugs with a Message events look like?
Be inspired
All events have a set start time and will begin with a short presentation from your host. You will learn all about Mugs with a Message, the featured non-profit of the event, and your project for the day. You will hear about the opportunity to donate to the featured non-profit, as all events are donation-based (no sign- up fee). You'll be able to enjoy snacks and beverages while waiting to begin painting!
Paint a mug
After the short presentation, you will be freed to paint! When designing a mug, the only requirement is that you include a word or short phrase that connects to your message. Event volunteers are happy to help brainstorm ideas or to help with the more difficult parts of the painting process. Keep in mind that the mug you paint won't go home with you! It will be donated to the featured non-profit of that event.
Tell your story
To finish off the event, we will ask you to write a short story, verse, letter, etc. to accompany your mug, and to expand on the message you hope to share. This will be kept in a book with other written pieces from the event, which will be donated with the mugs.
